Similar to scholarships, waivers are used to alleviate college expenses without the obligation of repayment. A waiver represents a specific monetary value applied to tuition, fees, or residence hall costs, contingent on the type of waiver granted to the student. Waivers are non-refundable and will only offset the actual charge specified for the waiver. Waivers cannot be carried forward to future semesters and students must meet the eligibility criteria based on the waiver qualifications.
Keep in mind that waivers are considered part of your financial aid package, which means they may replace some or all of your financial aid eligibility. For example, if you’re offered $1,000 in government loans after filing your FAFSA, and are later awarded a waiver covering $600 of your tuition, your loan offer may be reduced to $400. In general, the total combination of all awards should not exceed your financial aid need.
BSC Opportunity Waiver
Students who are eligible for this waiver may receive up to $1,250/semester in reduced tuition. Program fees, class/course fees, mandatory student fees or any other student fees are not covered under this waiver. Students must be enrolled full-time at BSC to qualify. The application priority deadline is August 1 for the Fall semester and January 1 for the Spring semester.
BSC Athletic Waiver
The Athletic department determines athletic waivers and scholarships. Athletic Waivers are non-refundable, and credits are applied to your base tuition amount. The Student Finance office applies Athletic Waivers during the first week of each semester. Athletic Scholarships are applied to any charges on your Student Account and any excess may be refundable. Athletic Scholarships are applied by the Financial Aid office about two weeks after the semester begins.
Dual Credit Waiver
Eligible students will receive up to a $550 reduction in tuition if previously enrolled in Dual Credit courses through BSC and attend BSC as degree-seeking students for Fall 2024.

BSC full-time and adjunct employees are offered a tuition waiver for three classes per calendar year. If courses are taken at BSC, the full cost of tuition will be waived along with a portion of the corresponding mandatory student fees. If courses are taken at another NDUS institution, 50% of tuition will be waived. The employee would be responsible for the remaining 50% along with all associated student fees. Eligibility is determined by the BSC HR Department.

Great Plains Promise Waiver

Industrial Automation Waiver Application

Students must be enrolled at BSC in an Associate in Science – Industrial Automation program. The eligibility of this waiver is determined by the Dean of Automation, Energy, and Advanced Technologies.
International Student Waiver
BSC offers eligible international students a 50% tuition reduction each academic year. This waiver applies to students who receive the international tuition rate and does not apply to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
North Dakota Law Enforcement Officer Waiver Guidelines/Application
Available to full-time North Dakota law enforcement officers who have at least two years of service and are maintaining satisfactory job performance. Must complete the application linked below, supplied by the ND Attorney General’s office. The ND law enforcement officer must receive supervisor approval at least one month in advance of the start of the semester. This waiver provides a 25% reduction in tuition/fees and is available for a maximum of five years after the initial award.

Students who are eligible for this waiver can receive a reduction of the base tuition for one 300-level course. Senior citizens, age 65 or older, may receive a tuition waiver toward one on-campus, for-audit course each semester. Students who meet eligibility requirements will receive a 100% reduction in tuition. Program fees, class/course fees, mandatory student fees or any other student fees are not covered under this waiver. Eligibility is determined by the BSC Student Finance Office.

This waiver is available for 10 semesters within all 11 NDUS institutions. This waiver is not available for semesters completed prior to receipt of the application. This waiver will automatically be applied to all continuously enrolled semesters, excluding summer, while eligibility is maintained. If the receiving student does not wish to utilize the waiver during a specific semester, the student must notify the BSC Student Finance office. The eligibility of the waiver is determined by the BSC Student Finance Office.
